The Coast Guard Auxiliary performs free vessel safety checks on recreational boats, including motor boats, sailboats, canoes, kayaks, inflatable craft, and "jon boats".   During the examination, a qualified Auxiliary member will inspect the equipment required to be on your boat, show you how to check the equipment yourself, and suggest other useful safety gear that may not be legally required.  This examination is for your information only and none of the information will be passed on to law enforcement authorities.  However, you will be informed of any requirements that are not met so that you can correct the problems.  Those who pass the safety inspection may be eligible for discounts on equipment purchased at certain marine dealers.

If you would like to request a Vessel Safety Check, please visit the Vessel Safety Check Web Site and/or click on the "I want a VSC" button to find the nearest examiner.  Or, you may contact the Flotilla Commander
